Check in an Appointment with CCL

2 min read

In this article, we will discuss the ccl_checkin.prg program attached. This program is intended to check appointments in through CCL.

The most well-known and used scheduling workflows is for users to schedule and maintain appointments through SchApptBook or RevenueCycle.

A standard alternative is to implement the SIU Display-only appointments inbound interface: Unit 16i – Display-Only Scheduling Inbound Specifications – Reference Pages – Cerner Wiki. With this interface, appointments are scheduled, re-scheduled, checked in, and checked out from a third party foreign system. The appointments appear in Millennium as displat-only.

However, there are scenarios in which you would like a mixture of the functionalities above. For example, you may wish to schedule appointments in Millennium but you would like patients to check themselves in from a Patient Check-in Kiosk (like for example Patient Check-In Kiosks 101 – Kiosk Group).

The problem is that would cannot check-in appointments through an standard Interface if the appointments were created using SchApptBook or RevenueCycle.

A solution is to use a program like ccl_checkin to check in an appointment that was scheduled in Millennium.

There are basically two main scenarios in which you would run this program:

Running the script from a SIU Z01 inbound message #

The modify object or original program from the interface would identify the parameters for the program and run it before skipping the Z01 inbound message.

Running the script from another CCL #

Maybe you have many appointments in the past that users did not check in when they were supposed to. These appointments may have build up over time and now you may need to check in those appointments through a batch operation. This is more typical just after the Millennium initial main go-live.

This could be necessary to clean up old appointments in a confirmed state.
